In the Balance

I like to think my time is well spent, no matter what I am doing. It's been a busy two weeks since I've been here, and I am not proud of it. On the other hand, I've been doing some pretty important things. Now that I am the PTO Treasurer at Erica's school, I've been getting a handle on the checkbook and record keeping for the school's funds. Without a Treasurer at all so far this school year, the other PTO members have been just making the deposits and doing the minimum, so there are several hours of attention needed there. So far, I'm glad to be involved, and more than anything, it's nice to have contact with other women. I have also become the school's representative a the district meetings, which was really neat - seeing what goes on in the background while the rest of us are just doing our thing. Like I told my husband, you have no idea that these people are meeting and getting things done for the benefit of schools - for the benefit of our kids. I have to say that it made me feel even better for having Erica in the school she is in. With the economy sucking money from the schools more every day, the PTO is crucial to getting the funds to put together the basic activities that make school a better experience. I know you are probably thinking that the tax money should cover everything, but now that I'm on the "inside" I can see how much the kids would lose if it weren't for the fundraising the PTO does. So, does anyone want to buy some chocolate??????
