Are We Crazy

After many, many weekends of discussion, some on the argument side, some on the whining side, Mr. and I have agreed that staying put and conforming the house to our needs and likes rather than trying to sell it and find something that in the end would have all the things this house has (or will have after our work is done). Our plan is to convert the playroom back to the garage it once was before we bought the house, upgrade the kitchen, or at least bring it into the 21st century, and add a place to park our camper. All this for a tight, tight budget - under $10K.

I am truly relieved, since moving involves so much more than just packing up a box and arranging for the cable tv to be hooked up. Selling a home these days is difficult, and keeping things clutter free, non-personal, and show-home quality is flat out impossible. Since we have made such an important decision, it has made our future possible. The past 4 years that we have lived here have been "temporary", but now we can do the things that we have always wanted to - like fix the "creative" repairs that the previous owners made.

After we came up with a budget, plan of action, and priority list, we discussed how things like these turn spouses against each other, and cause irrational arguments, not to mention frustration in decision making. We agreed to try not to get angry at each other, or at least vent it behind each other's backs, like good married folk do. It will be a long journey. It will be worth it - I hope. Mr. said, "See you in the other side." I said, "Our marriage has been through a lot, but will it survive this?" We'll see, once we agree on the kitchen cabinets, counter and floor colors!
