Well, we have taken in another lost soul into our home - however this time, it's of the 4 legged kind. "Belle" has joined our family as of yesterday afternoon. Formerly known as Pebbles, the 6 month old black lab mix puppy took only minutes to win over both Mark and Erica. They made good friends while I went in search of a cash machine to withdrawl the adoption/rescue fee. It didn't take her long to choose her favorite - MARK!
We had set out to meet some dogs at a local garden center having an open house. Since there weren't any at the site that fit, so we made arrangements to visit one at a foster home. As we drove there, I knew that unless this was the ugliest dog or peed all over our feet, she would be coming home with us. I silently accepted this - after all, I had said that we would get a dog, as long as we rescued one. We would have limited choices. They would each have some "baggage".
Of course, Belle is a loveable, friendly, well behaved dog. Her foster mom, Tammy, said that Belle had been timid since coming to stay with her two weeks ago, but she was gaining her trust, and definitely her affection. Belle also did well with her other dogs and her grandson. And most of all, she was HOUSE TRAINED! MY #1 desire!!!! Belle walks well on a leash, watches the family activity, and has no problem falling onto the floor, rolling over, and awaiting a belly rub!
Now, we do have one problem so far - not ten minutes after our leaving this morning, Belle was running around the front yard loose. Our neighbor Bud caught her and called me - "does your dog have a pink collar?" So back we go, and now we will need to better dog-proof the yard. The funny thing is she got out the same way our dog Duke did - under the chain link fence. Even though we had staked the fence down, she somehow knew that this was the escape route! Since it's her first day, I can see she is curious - plus we took her on a walk last night, and she now knows some of the neighbors.
So far, I can tell she likes peanut butter, dog treats, apple slices, and of course, SNAUSAGES....... I think she likes the rest of us, too!
If you are interested in getting a dog, check out this link. They are awesome!
