Mother Nature is Bored

Early this morning, even before the sun was scheduled to rise, Mother Nature was a busy girl. She began the day for those of us on Earth with some unexpected lightning and thunder - something that always impresses me, even though it seemed Mother Nature was simply bored with all the quiet snowfall she has created lately, and decided to mix it up a bit. No need for the alarm clock this morning. As I lay in the bed, the flashes of lightning coming more frequent, and thunderous booms closer, I remembered one summer when my dad recorded a similar storm with his Radio Shack tape recorder. The storm seemed to go on for hours, and the tape finally ran out before the thunder ended. Months later, in November, we sat listening to the tape, recalling the warm summer evening, the sounds of rain, wind, thunder, and when I closed my eyes I could see the lightning flash over and over, like fourth of July fireworks. Ever since, storms like these take me back, reminding me of Dad, grateful for the times I had with him.
