The past few days have been spent standing by, waiting for the doctor to share the prognosis of our 84 years old aunt, Jean. She has slowly been showing signs of aging, but for the most part has been doing very well. She lives independently in a senior residence, and still does her own laundry (the bag of which was high on her mind as she was transported in the ambulance to the emergency room). She has not had heart problems, but today the latest round of doctors explained the bottom ventricles are beating in a circular motion, and the upper ventricles are beating side to side (the correct way), and they prescribed yet another pill - oh they have a pill for everything! She is a bit old for a pacemaker, but I guess it's what helped her younger sister last year. Right now it's wait and see......
I was named after this aunt, and she is one special lady - to ALL of us. She has been the "neutral" one, never taking a side in family feuds. She lived 45 years in Alaska, and I truly believe the "clean" living up there increased her longevity. She is the oldest of her remaining siblings (two sisters, one still in Alaska) and takes her position seriously. My aunt has always had a positive outlook on life, and did whatever she set her mind to. My hope is that she will have many, many more days to enjoy. And I hope, selfishly, to have many more days with her.
