Movie Madness - a whole new meaning

I have not told my nine year old about the nightmare that took place last week in a local movie theater. I have turned off the news when she comes in the room, and I have told family members & friends to not mention it. I am usually very open with her about the events of life. This time, however, I feel like I can't see the reasoning of telling her that a person walked into a movie theater and killed so many - including the 6 year old daughter of her older sister's friend. During the summer we go to the movies weekly - clearly the news of this event would put fear in her heart, as it has mine. Incredibly, I have preserved her childhood, keeping her focused on things appropriate to nine year olds. If I open up her mind to the horrific things of the world, that innocence is gone.
