Yee Haw!

You aren't truly a local unless you have attended the Stock Show. This was the second year we took Erica, and it was even more fun now that she is into horses..... My brother, niece and nephew went with us, and it was their first time. I loved watching their faces as they saw bareback riders, cattle roping, and trick riders of the pro rodeo. The only drawback was the huge crowd of people, and we had to keep close attention to the three kids, as most people were oblivious (as usual) to anyone around them, and it was easy to get separated. We visited the kids corral and Erica, Kyra and Kayl fed the goats and a medium sized llama, plus petted the pig and a few chickens. The goats were fun, eating the pellets and dry oatmeal gently out of their hands, but particularly enjoying the ice cream cone it came in. Maybe they were hoping for a little fudge ripple..... Kyra didn't like the smell - really, who does? - but got over it and had fun. Kayl was excited to see all the action, and all three were - at first - more interested in getting kettle corn. This I blame on their grandma Rose - she lived for kettle corn! Then there was the shaved ice, a huge pop, and hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch. But I was proud of us adults, since we all left without buying ANY cheap toys or hats or candy. I think it was the way we hustled (herded) them out the door. Over all, I think they liked riding the shuttle bus most of all. Me, I liked rubbing boot heels with the true ranchers of our country, the ones who keep the old ways of life alive as best possible. It's such a patriotic experience. But best of all... the kettle corn, of course!
